Footloose est un film américain réalisé par Herbert Ross, sorti le 17 février 1984. 
Le film est basé sur des événements ayant réellement eu lieu à Elmore City, petit ville rurale de l'Oklahoma, en 1978. La danse y était bannie depuis près de 90 ans, jusqu'à ce qu'un groupe de lycéens bouscule les règles. 
Footloose a donné lieu à une comédie musicale de Walter Bobbie, dont la première eu lieue le 2 octobre 1998 au Richard Rodgers Theatre de New York. 
Michael Cimino devait au départ réaliser le film mais fut renvoyé après qu'il eu demandé une avance de 250 000 dollars pour réécrire entièrement le scénario avant le début du tournage. 
Les scènes où Chris Penn apprend à danser ont été ajoutées au scénario parce que ce dernier ne savait réellement pas danser. 
Dianne Wiest, qui interprète le rôle de Vi, la mère d'Ariel, est seulement âgée de neuf ans de plus que Lori Singer (Ariel). 
Nomination à l'Oscar de la meilleure chanson (Kenny Loggins et Dean Pitchford pour Footloose, ainsi que Tom Snow et Dean Pitchford pour Let's Hear It for the Boy) en 1985.

Ce titre aurait été vendu, selon Ray Parker Jr en 2007, a pas moins de 27 millions d'unités. La chanson a aussi été nominée en 1984 aux oscars dans la catégorie de la meilleure chanson originale mais s'inclina devant I just call to say I love you de Stevie Wonder pour le film La Fille en rouge.
